Socratic Seminar

Notes   During the seminar I wrote down that Paul Simon got all the credits for the songs he had written. Also there could be a chance that Paul went to Africa for the culture and to learn. Lastly Paul wasn’t trying to let his music die ,trying to keep the music relevant.

What I learned this semester

This semester I’ve learned quite a bit during this first half of the course. I’ve learned how to make, create, and control my own blog. I also learned how to have self confidence. Originally coming into this class I expected the normal, textbooks and weekely vocabulary. When into here you really changed my perspective on English. It wasn’t really a subject I enjoyed but now that we’re on blogs and doing a lot on our phones and tablets I’m really starting to enjoy it. I also learned about people I didn’t even knew existed who were some of the most recognized poets and writers of our time. One of the most important things that I learned in this course is that we can learn and discover more without using any textbooks and just using technology!!!

Immigrants in our own land

I think that the whole poem is revealing the sad truth of what happens when people go to jail. They all go to prison hoping that they’ll be able to change their own life around and become a more and improved person. Sadly most leave less of a person than they were when they first entered prison.

On Self-Reliance

As Dr.Preston said “The title of the Emerson essay is just basically telling us, look you just learned something!” It’s honestly the best explanation of the title. If I were to take a guess as to what Emerson is trying to describe in the thesis is think that he’s telling us to find self reliance in ourself rather than relying on other people. What I mean is to have some faith in yourself and not always depend on others.        In the essay if Emerson the tone is really motivational in my own opinion. Emerson is trying to tell us that being yourself isn’t a bad thing , trust yourself more than you trust others.        The diction in the essay is pretty confusing in my opinion. Although once it gets explained and I partially understand it I still get confused. The way Emerson uses his words is outstanding or just bad. If I can’t understand it either it’s too difficult for me to comprehend or it’s just terrible but I know...

Author in progress

I personally think I did good on my essay although I do need to fix up some parts of it. First I need to stop repeating myself over and over again. Second I think I just need to explain both syntax and tone a bit more , add 1 or 2 more details and I think it’ll be good enough for an A.
